August 15, 2019 Holy Day of ObligationThe graces of Jesus' redemption are outside of time and space. Mary is conceived without original sin. In the feast of the Assumption, we celebrate the result of that reality! Mary's soul and body are not separated at the moment of death, nor does her body decay. She is brought up, body and soul, into Heaven. Even in apostolic times, no religious site has claimed the actual body of Mary. Considering the Church's enthusiasm for relics, this is a startling fact! After Christianity became legal in the Roman Empire, the site of her empty tomb became a place of local pilgrimage. On this feast, we remember that just as Jesus has taken care of his mother, he will take care of us!
